Adobe Systems Incorporated unveiled its Creative Suite, a new software product that combines new full-version upgrades of Adobe Photoshop CS, Adobe Illustrator CS, Adobe InDesign CS, and Adobe GoLive CS. It also incorporates Acrobat 6.0 Professional and introduces the Version Cue file version manager. The all-new Adobe Creative Suite design environment enables creative professionals to create and publish content to print and the Web faster, more easily, and more efficiently. With Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) becoming an integral part of Web and print production workflows, Acrobat 6.0 Professional is also a component of the Adobe Creative Suite. This enables customers to review and comment on documents, as well as pre-flight and output complex print jobs. Available as a key component of the Adobe Creative Suite or as a standalone software application, Photoshop CS offers features that help creative professionals craft high-quality images more quickly and efficiently. Photoshop CS increases user control, with a redesigned File Browser enhancing search, sorting, and sharing capabilities and a new Histogram Palette monitoring changes in the image as they are made. Additional advances include Match Color, which reads color statistics to quickly achieve a consistent look across a series of photographs; Shadow/Highlight, which improves the contrast of over- or underexposed digital images; and enhanced ImageReady CS integration. Photoshop CS also integrates second-generation Camera Raw functionality, enabling direct manipulation of raw data in an expanded set of professional-grade digital cameras. For graphic designers, features such as Layer Comps can be used to quickly capture design variations within a single file, then instantly output alternates for client review. Typographic designs can also be created by manipulating fully editable text on any path or inside any closed path. Photoshop CS enables photographers to work directly with raw data from even more digital cameras and includes comprehensive editing support for 16-bit color images. Color across images can be synchronized with Match Color and Shadow/Highlight correction cures exposure problems while preserving midtones. Accurately creating imagery for display on screen has always been a challenge, because non-square pixels, typical of video, cause computer-generated graphics (which use square pixels) to appear distorted. With non-square pixel support in Photoshop CS, video professionals can see the image as it would appear on the destination device and they can create with confidence using preset video-standard sizes, including automatic action-safe and title-safe guides. The 16-bit support in Photoshop CS preserves the rich color palette of film and the product is tightly integrated with Adobe's video software, including Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Encore DVD, and Adobe After Effects. The enhanced user interface features multiple object selection, manipulation, and grouping, with Smart Guides to facilitate object alignment. Exporting to Macromedia Flash SWF can be performed in one step with preserved vectors and dynamic text, including embedded fonts. Web professionals can also create leaner, more easily edited HTML with new controls for nested tables, XHTML, and more. Photoshop CS for Mac OSX 10.2.4, Microsoft Windows 2000 with Server Pack 3, and Windows XP will be available in the fourth (calendar) quarter of 2003 to customers in the United States and Canada through Adobe Authorized Resellers and the Adobe Store. Adobe Photoshop CS will be available for an estimated street price of $649. Registered users of any previous version of Adobe Photoshop can upgrade to Adobe Photoshop CS for an estimated street price of $169. Adobe InCopy CS is a new and improved version of the professional writing and editing program that integrates tightly with Adobe InDesign CS. With a new editorial workflow technology that enables writers, editors, and designers to work simultaneously on the same InDesign CS document, InCopy CS streamlines editorial revision and review cycles, reducing the amount of time it takes to get a publication to press. Previously only available through systems integrators and third-party developers servicing large publishing enterprises, Adobe InCopy CS will now also be sold directly from the Adobe store, bringing InCopy in reach of small editorial teams. Originally designed for large publishing companies, InCopy CS is extending its market reach by providing a professional editorial workflow solution for small workgroups of less than 10 people through a bridge technology that enables InDesign CS and InCopy CS to work together right out of the package. With InCopy CS, writers and editors have more control over the integrity of their copy, reducing editorial revision cycles and enhancing collaboration among editors and designers. Tight integration between InDesign and InCopy provides 100% accurate line-break information, while alternative document views (galley view, story view, layout view) allow editors to see how the copy and page layout interact. Using text macros, keyboard shortcuts, dynamic spell checking, a Thesaurus Palette, and find and change options, InCopy CS users can quickly and efficiently perform everyday editorial tasks. Meanwhile, access to detailed document statistics such as word, line, and character counts, as well as vertical depth measurement, makes copyfitting easier. Using editorial workflow technology and simple file check-in and check-out, editors and designers can work on the same content simultaneously without overwriting each other's changes. In-line notes and change tracking tools let editors review and collaborate more closely, while support for XML allows InCopy CS to integrate into a wide variety of cross-media publishing workflows. InCopy CS for Mac OS X version 10.2, Microsoft Windows 2000, and Windows XP (Home and Professional Editions) will be available in the fourth (calendar) quarter of 2003 to customers in the United States and Canada through the Adobe Store. The estimated street price for the full version will be $249 for all platforms. InCopy will also be available through Adobe-authorized system integrators. Pricing and availability will be determined by systems integrators based on individual installations. For more detailed information about Adobe InCopy CS, visit www.adobe.com/incopy. InDesign CS is built with flexible tools to enable a more fluid design and creative process for designers. Improved workspace management allows designers to customize work areas to fit their own creative workflows through collapsible palettes, named workspaces, and the new Control Palette. Collapsible palettes can be tucked along the edge of the window to free up onscreen workspace, while palette locations can be saved as customized workspaces which can be loaded at any time. The new context-sensitive Control Palette efficiently formats text, edits objects, and fine-tunes tables in one location on a workspace. A new Stroke Style Editor enables designers to design custom lines and apply them to any stroke. InDesign improves efficiency further with its ability to set up running headers and footers within tables. With a common user interface, font handling, color management, and keyboard shortcuts, InDesign has a look and feel similar to that of Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat.
