  Large Format Digital Fine Art Market Study

Introduction

In CAP Ventures’ research report entitled Large Format Digital Fine Art Market Study, analysts examine the use of large format digital printers for producing digital fine art. Research for the report was conducted in 2003 via Web-based surveys. Nearly 200 respondents from a variety of end-user segments completed the surveys. 

This research was conducted to gather information about the size of the market in North America. It provides details on the usage and longevity requirements for large format fine art prints, determines production trends, and establishes leading brands of hardware and supplies.

Market Size

Over the past five years, improvements in inkjet printing technology have enabled explosive growth in digital fine art printing. CAP Ventures estimates that the North American digital fine art market was valued at $290 million in 2003, and it is expected to reach $600 million by 2007. This represents a CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of 20%.

Supplies Perspective  

Supplies vendors should also take note of this explosive market. The premium aspect of digital fine art supplies offers vendors shelter from the price squeezing that is taking place in the general graphics market. Our survey participants indicated a total mean expenditure of over $25,000 annually on media and consumables. 

As shown in the Figure below, survey respondents expect their spending on digital fine art printing supplies to grow substantially over the next 12 months.

According to our survey results, 75% of respondents plan to spend more on digital fine art printing supplies in the coming year than they did in the previous year.
