IT-Decision Makers in the Middle East & Africa Place a Premium on Green Initiatives

Key Highlights:

  • Over half of MEA respondents indicated that “green” initiatives were important in their organizations.
  • Using recycled or certified paper and returning used ink and toner cartridges were the most important “green” initiatives.
  • Vendors and print suppliers will benefit from emphasizing “green” features to these markets.

(Weymouth, MA) January 10, 2012…InfoTrends has recently released Market Pulse 2011: Middle East and Africa which provides insights into the Middle Eastern and African office equipment and supplies markets. After surveying over 450 IT decision-makers within the industry, InfoTrends has identified the importance of “green” initiatives in the Middle Eastern and African regions.

“Green” initiatives are important in MEA regions

Despite being seen as an emerging market, the MEA region has shown similar levels of environmental concern as more mature markets. When asked how important “green” initiatives were to their organization, more than half of respondents indicated that it was at least of some importance. In fact, more than 80% of respondents indicated as such in South Africa and Turkey.

How important are "green" initiatives to your organization?

InfoTrends uncovers top “green” initiatives

Respondents were asked which “green” initiatives were most important to their company. Turkey and Israel indicated that using recycled paper, or media purchased from sustainable mills (i.e., mills certified by organizations such as the Forest Stewardship Council) was the top choice for their organizations. Returning used ink/toner cartridges was the most popular answer for South Africa, but recycled paper was almost just as common with a 1% difference. Although InfoTrends uncovered many differences in other areas amongst these markets, their future “green” initiatives were virtually the same.

Vendors and print suppliers should market “green”

“Vendors and print suppliers would do well to emphasize their ‘green’ credentials when marketing to businesses in these markets”, commented InfoTrends Group Director Jon Reardon.  “Sustainable paper certifications and the ease of recycling empty ink or toner cartridges may be particularly suitable given the importance respondents already place in these activities.” Since environmental initiatives are of high importance in these areas, consumers are more likely to pay a premium price for “green” products over other attributes.

Market Pulse 2011: Middle East and Africa is part of the Market Pulse Report Series. The research profiles IT decision-makers from 24 countries in 8 key regions to identify areas of opportunity and growth for hardware, software, and supplies products and services. 150 IT decision-makers from each of the identified countries are asked questions focused on current hardware mix, future purchase plans, paper volumes, supplies usage and preferences, new software and services initiatives, as well as hot button topics such as mobile technology and green. The results of the research will assist office document technology vendors and suppliers in developing targeted go-to-market strategies.

Market Pulse covers the following regions and countries:

Market Pulse can be purchased as a series or as individual reports. Each regional package includes a detailed report identifying the key findings, opportunities, and recommendations, a set of PowerPoint charts for the region and individual countries, as well as data tabulations for the region.
